Last night I had the privilege of joining the launch of the Rev. David Beckmann’s remarkable new book, Poverty Abolitionists: Faith, Activism, and Hope for Difficult Times. The evening offered an inspiring focus on our essential Gospel obligation to confront and eradicate poverty wherever it persists. It was both a celebration of Beckmann’s vision and a summons to action for all people of faith.
In his book, Beckmann presents a powerful argument that abolishing poverty is not only possible but necessary for a just and faithful society. He combines deep theological insight with practical strategies for change, reminding readers that poverty is a solvable moral crisis rather than an inevitable fact of life. His work challenges us to imagine—and to build—a world where economic justice truly reflects God’s love and mercy.
Poverty Abolitionists is an impressive and important contribution to the ongoing struggle for social and economic equity. Beckmann offers both inspiration and practical wisdom for those committed to making a real difference. I warmly urge you to buy a copy here and share it widely with friends and colleagues who care about living out the Gospel through meaningful action.
