Prayers for the GOE Takers

Date: January 2, 2024

2024 has arrived. I pray, trust, and hope that the pause over Christmas and the New Year has been gift to us all. For our seniors, many of whom are taking the General Ordination Exams, this has not been a relaxing pause. Inevitably, these are the “professional examinations” that clergy are required to take. As with all professional examinations (for example, in Accountancy or Law), they are stressful.

So, today, we remember our Seniors and their General Ordination Examinations. Please read the questions (all the parts of the questions) and answer them. And please offer this moment to God. We trust that the divine energy can assist in this moment.

I am grateful to all those providing practical support. The provision of beverages and some candy to provide a wee sugar boost in those moments during the day when our examination takers are flagging. Thank you.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary and the President of The General Theological Seminary
