Preparing The Way: A CXM Summer

Date: June 26, 2026

Summer at the Seminary tends to slow down. The dorms empty out, campus quiets, and the pace eases. But like many across campus, we in Contextual Ministry use these months to prepare for the upcoming school year.

Contextual Ministry is the part of student development that happens outside the classroom, in parishes, hospitals, shelters, and chaplaincies, where students put their formation into practice. The groundwork for that begins now, before anyone arrives in the fall.

During these summer months we’re getting ready for the next CXM cohort. That means creating calendars, planning the CXM Fair where students first meet prospective sites and supervisors, and scheduling the interview days that follow, where students interview with supervisors and are matched to a site. We’re booking rooms for fall orientations so that everything is in place when students arrive, as well as reviewing our materials to make sure they’re current and consistent. It’s many pieces, all aimed at making sure the start of the year goes smoothly.

We’re also staying in touch with students in their summer intensives, checking in and answering questions along the way. So while campus may look still, plenty is already in motion. By the time students step into their CXM year this fall, we want the path in front of them to be clear.
