Quiet Day, Wednesday, September 24th

Date: September 19, 2025

Every semester at Virginia Theological Seminary we set aside a day for prayerful reflection. This Quiet Day offers a pause in the busyness of classes, contextual ministry, activities on and off campus, and the steady hum of everyday life.

Our tradition affirms in the practice of sabbath that even God, the Creator of all that is, took time to rest, to be still. If you have attempted to honor the sabbath, you will know that to do so requires discipline and intention. To be still is counter-cultural. We have to plan ahead, to complete assignments ahead of time, and to say no to meetings or opportunities to connect with others.

Our Quiet Day this semester is Wednesday, September 24. We will begin with morning prayer and a framing of the day from Associate Professor of Ethics Kyle Lambelet at 8:15 am. Other services will include the noonday office and we will close the day with Eucharist and a shared meal at 5:15 pm. In between these moments of corporate prayer, we invite the campus to rest from the normal work of a weekday and take time for quiet, prayerful retreat. Please plan ahead to receive the gift of this day of silence and prayer.
