Reflection on a lecture

Date: March 30, 2023

I am so grateful to Dr. Lerone A. Martin, the director of the Martin Luther King Jr. Research and Education Institute and the Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Stanford University. He delivered an extraordinary and important lecture. We opened this event up to our friends at The General Theological Seminary. This is one of the joys of the affiliation. We can all learn from this moment.

This morning, I have the privilege of being with Dr. Kate Sonderegger’s Formation Group. Together we will do some important soul work. We will think, listen, and learn. I loved the reading that Dr. Thompson suggested we should engage with. And the conversation will be rich and important.

May these moments shape us; may we learn from them; may we be changed through them.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
The Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary and the President of General Theological Seminary
