In the next few commentaries, I shall share some of the major decisions of the Board of Trustees. However, today, let me give you an overview. This was the first Board meeting held on the campus since the pandemic closed everything down. As a result, it was their first opportunity to see the impact of $40 million of renovation and enhancement. The Goodwin Board Room is an elegant and beautiful space for meetings. Bicentennial Hall is an award-winning gem. Addison Academic Center is fresh and full of life. Saints and Stories is a remarkable historical record. The Bishop Payne Library is a joy. Coffield Refectory, Scott Lounge, the Kitchen, and 1823 are all extraordinary. The hard work of the Board in supporting the campaign and overseeing the expenditures is resulting in a campus truly ready for the third century of service.
Board members attended the Multicultural Bilingual Eucharist and the Wednesday morning Community Eucharist. The music was special; the preaching exceptional; and the beauty of Episcopal liturgy – in its rhythm and grace – shined through. The library re-dedication was well organized; and the library was stunning. The campus looked beautiful; and the weather was just perfect.
Moments like this are made possible by the extraordinary team at VTS. John Erbe ensured that the grounds looked stunning. Reggie Gravina managed a Zoom connection that sustained seven hours of connectivity (and did not freeze once). Vannessa McCormick made sure Board members had guest rooms. Meriwether Godsey provided meals that were a delight. And Taryn Habberley attended to every detail to ensure a smooth occasion. There are many others who played their part. To you all, I am full of gratitude. Thank you.
The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
