VTS has always had a journal. The VTS Journal is now home to our “state occasions”. So, you tend to find the Costan Lectures, the Reinker Lecture, and the Commencement Address in the Journal. It provides the historic record of the present and makes that record available to the future.
I am delighted to share today that VTS has added an additional journal to our offerings. Elite institutions should have a journal as part of their stable of offerings to enable them to contribute, even in a small way, to the academic discourse. As the Faculty returns from the Society of Biblical Literature and the American Academy of Religion – the largest stage for the religion academy in the world – it is a good moment to announce the arrival of a journal to Virginia Theological Seminary.
From January 1, 2025, the editorship of the journal, “Reviews in Religion and Theology”, will reside at Virginia Theological Seminary. It is published by Wiley Blackwell. I am grateful to Dr. Gareth Jones (who was the founding editor) for his willingness to take on the editorship. The journal will come out of the Dean’s office with the assistance of Ms. Taryn Habberley and Ms. Sharon Longley.
Along with the Costan Lectures (a set of cutting-edge academic lectures), the journal enhances our profile in the academy and the Church. It is the premier book review journal in its field, and we are delighted to add it to our offerings at VTS.
The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary and the President of The General Theological Seminary
