Ripples of Joy

Date: March 28, 2023

Sadly, I had a family gathering booked in for the weekend. So, I missed the Variety Show. But I have heard some really good reports. Once again, talent was showcased. We have people who can play, sing, and make others laugh. I am delighted that the Student Government organized the event.

One of my Lent exercises is to learn to really appreciate the good moments. Too often, I take them for granted and move on too quickly. So, this weekend was a moment when I was able to really listen to my son Luke and his girlfriend Sam; I was able to enjoy connecting with my sister-in-law, Elaine, and her husband Ian. We all enjoyed attending the home of Barney and Linda Hawkins and having a fabulous dinner. Instead of simply living through the moment, I am trying to consciously enjoy, not simply the occasion, but also the memory.

I hope those of you who were present for the Variety Show can do the same. Joy is a Christian discipline: living intentionally and deeply is the secret to enjoying the countless ripples of joy that pervade our lives.
