The campus is definitely quieter. Plenty of students have left the campus to enjoy this break in the semester. Around the residence hall, the number of cars was probably half the normal. Not surprisingly, there are more vehicles around the apartments. But it is clear spring break is an opportunity to travel.
One of the reasons we are keeping the mask mandate until April 4 is to make sure that as we all regather, we are continuing to stay healthy. We will continue to test the community through this semester and into the summer. COVID is still with us, although fortunately the combination of vaccinations and booster protects one from the severe illness.
We will be striving for that balance. It is good that students are seeing friends and family this spring break. It is also good that we recognize that we are a community with an obligation to care for each other. Enjoy spring break and please stay healthy.
