Staff Spotlight – Chris Pote

Date: May 6, 2021

Christopher (Chris) Pote serves as the Seminary Archivist in the Bishop Payne Library, where he began in the fall of 2007.  He started working at the Seminary as an intern while in graduate school.

He has many memories during his time working here. Most memorable is the day the historic 1881 chapel burned down.  He says: “The day was tragic, sad, yet a day when the community came together to grieve and support each other.” Chris is most proud when projects and initiatives  he has worked on are shared publicly, allowing others to learn the rich history of the Seminary, which include the publications Hail Holy Hill and No Turning Back.

He is currently working on the Seminary Saints and Stories project and the VTS reparations project. Both projects uncover personal connections and stories that are captivating and exciting to research.

The greatest gift anyone can give this place is the gift of their time. Time is precious. And for the gift of those days given by Chris, we are very grateful.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
