This evening at 7:00 p.m. in Immanuel Chapel the Biblical Storytelling course will present a performance of the Acts of the Apostles. The class has spent the semester delving into this fast-paced, action-packed book of the Bible, and developing ways to embody this narrative to make it come alive. The performance is a combination of solo performances and ensemble pieces, woven together to present one telling of the Book of Acts.
In coming to know this story well enough to perform it, the class has discovered anew the richness of this text, which testifies powerfully to the inspiring witness of the earliest followers of Jesus Christ, their courage under persecution, and above all the power of the Holy Spirit that drives the story along, compelling the disciples to go to places they would not otherwise want to go, and to enlarge the church beyond their wildest imaginings.
As a story of inspiration, bravery, boundary-crossing, and world transformation, this story feels particularly appropriate to tell in these times. It has the power to summon the church anew to its mission to bring the Gospel to the ends of the earth. All are invited to attend this performance!
