Our spring semester is now underway! We want to welcome Dr. Ross Kane back from his sabbatical. Going on sabbatical this spring are Dr. Robert Heaney, Dr. Mark Jefferson, Dean Melody Knowles, Dean James R. Mathes, and Dr. Katherine Sonderegger. Let us keep them in our prayers, that each might have a restorative sabbatical filled with special moments of discovery and theological reflection! We also want to welcome Dr. Kristopher Norris, Kreitler Visiting Professor, to VTS.
Every new semester comes with new challenges, and this spring many of you will be exploring new fields of study or making preparations for ordination and going on job interviews. Some are taking on new leadership roles, while at the same time continuing to balance coursework, family, and a prayer life all in the midst of a pandemic. It can be stressful to work under the pressure of so many competing demands. Learning to carve out time in the midst of all our daily responsibilities to take care of ourselves is an important part of our formation experience.
We here at VTS encourage you to reach out for support when you experience stress. You do not have to manage alone. We want to create an environment that promotes “self-care.” Do not hesitate to reach out for support when you need it, from your friends, proctors, faculty deans, professors, and your class chaplains. Our spiritual directors can also serve as a comforting resource.
Personally, I want to thank you for your resilience during these uncertain times. Each of you makes VTS the unique and thriving community it is, and I feel blessed to be on this journey with you.
