Student Life

Date: August 15, 2024

One of the biggest reasons I wanted to be student body vice president was because of its focus on organizing community-wide events that emphasize fellowship and fun. I firmly believe that one of the biggest benefits of residential seminary is the chance we have to gather together in-person and celebrate different seasons of the school year together. Whether it’s full stop dinners (free meals open to the entire VTS community on Friday evenings throughout the year), a Halloween party, our annual Advent Affair, a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper, a Superbowl watch party, spring fling, the variety show, or graduation festivities, moments of celebration and thanksgiving like these are the highlights of living in a faith community like ours.

In Life Together, Dietrich Bonhoeffer tells us one of the outcomes of Christian community: “they meet one another as bringers of the message of salvation.” I believe for Virginia Theological Seminary this means every person ought to feel included in the day to day student life but in the broader hope that community at residential seminary means seeing the Gospel of love and grace lived out in a diverse array of people and pursuits. As the student body chancellor, my goal is to ensure this happens by making sure that everyone is heard and has a means to be heard at this seminary. Student life is your life. You can be a part of any act of revelry or reconciliation that occurs when life is lived amidst other people. Your presence here makes the Gospel more beautiful to others. We are glad to have you with us.
