Suicide Prevention Walk

Date: April 5, 2024

The Seminary can bustle with activity on many days. Often, significant events happen, perhaps none more so than the annual suicide prevention campus walk. This Saturday, April 6th, VTS will host its third Out of the Darkness Campus Walk, one of thousands of such events held by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention across the US. Those who walk will help raise awareness of the 11th leading cause of death and bring hope to all those affected by suicide.

Seminarian formation happens in many ways: in the classroom, the chapel, over meals, and at CXM sites. It can also occur while walking. Students will likely confront suicide and its impact given its prevalence. So, activities such as a Saturday afternoon walk around campus can prepare students for ministry.

I am grateful to the participants, especially the campus walk organizers, Meredith Rogers, Allison Vincent-Beckman, Jeremy Adams, Stephen Cook, and Bob Flanagan.

It’s not too late to join in. Stop by Addison starting at 1:30 on Saturday. Even if you don’t walk, you can buy a tasty treat from the Captain Cookie and the Milkman food truck! And do please give here, this is important work.
