Date: September 9, 2025
In one week, we will welcome the Rt. Rev. Dr. James Lule Kenyi from the Diocese of Kajo-Keji in the Episcopal Church of South Sudan to VTS—virtually. On September 16, 2025 at 12:45 pm EDT Bishop Kenyi will join us on Zoom to speak about his important work in the diocese of Kajo-Keji with peacebuilding at the church, community and governmental levels. Sign up here for this important chance to stay connected to South Sudan.
This is a chance to educate ourselves and to offer support to a region of the church and the world experiencing extreme difficulties that is often overlooked. Bishop Kenyi was meant to join us at VTS this month for a Communion Sabbatical hosted by the Center for Anglican Communion Studies but he was not able to come due to recent US travel restrictions. He is currently working to help resolve a border conflict between Uganda and South Sudan that has displaced thousands of people. Bishop Kenyi has served as diocesan bishop since 2023 and, prior to that, in various key leadership positions in theological education and civil society. In this time of increasing isolation of the US from the worldwide church in the majority world, we need to commit to opportunities like these where the use of technology can help us to bolster relationships, educate each other, nurture hope and offer support.
