Supporting our International Students

Date: January 28, 2025

It was my mistake. As I set out the VTS position for the calendar year in my start of the semester sermon, I should have highlighted our support for our international students. In a season where “deportation” is a key word, it is not surprising that our international students are concerned about both harassment and potential detainment. I am working with the Rev. Rachelle Sam, our Associate Dean of Students, to provide our international students with appropriate support.

Our international students are an important part of our shared experience at VTS. They bring a global perspective to our life on the holy hill. We are grateful for their presence among us.

I apologize to the international students for my mistake. And, to be clear, as part of our witness in these times, VTS will support our international students. We honor them as a key part of our community.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary and the President of The General Theological Seminary.
