Date: October 29, 2021
Last Thursday and Friday afternoons, the Lifelong Learning Department hosted its first online Symposium on the Spirituality of Children attended by over 250 participants from across the country and the globe. Jerome Berryman (founder of Godly Play) presented the keynote address on “Becoming Real: A Theology of Childhood,” with Drs. Lisa Kimball and Liz DeGaynor facilitated the conversation in response. The Symposium also included paper presentations from nine scholars and practitioners focusing on the latest research in the field.
In the coming weeks, the full content of the Symposium will be available on-demand on the new Lifelong Learning Teachable website and the paper presentations will be published by VTS Press in early 2022.
This Symposium highlights the unique role of the Seminary in the area of formation as we begin our search for a new faculty appointment for the Berryman Family Chair for Children’s Spirituality and Nurture.
I would like to thank the Lifelong Learning Department for hosting this outstanding symposium and especially, the Rev. Katherine Malloy, Lifelong Learning’s director of Christian formation resources, the symposium’s chief designer and organizer.
The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President
