On Monday, I had the joy of visiting with the Chelsea Group in the Sparrow Conference Room. This is The General Theological Seminary class of 1970. From 1989 onwards, the class has been meeting annually, except for during the COVID interruption. It is an exceptional class of distinguished clergy, who love the Church and love The General Theological Seminary. Once they heard about the affiliation, they reached out to inquire as to whether they could have their reunion here in Alexandria. We were delighted to say yes.
The group calls itself “The Chelsea Boys’ and Girls’ Club” – spouses and partners are included. They arrived on Saturday and have enjoyed participating in chapel services and meals in the Refectory. Bishop Jim Jelinek and the Rev. Dennis Fotinos tend to convene and organize the group.
The conversation on Monday was all about the future of GTS. We talked about the success of the hybrid MDiv and the future opportunities for the Close. The questions were thoughtful and passionate. I felt blessed in and through the conversation.
