The Flamingo Is Open

Date: January 12, 2022

Every morning I try to get across to the Flamingo. It means I get a few steps in (which is tricky when it is so cold outside). Once there, I resist the urge to have a free cup of drip coffee. I am aware that we have two employees providing a wonderful service and some income into the Flamingo helps with the economics of the operation. I am also blessed with a good salary that helps me afford my “almond latte to go.”

The Flamingo isn’t busy in January, but it is important. Normally, there are five or six students there. Some reading, some working on their computers, some working on a puzzle, and some having intimate conversations with friends. It is warm and pleasant.

As you plan your day today, I invite you all to support the Flamingo. Have a chocolate croissant, have a meeting with a colleague in the Flamingo, get together with a friend there – in all these ways, you can make sure that Flamingo remains an important January term service for the community.
