The Present and Future of Our Church

Date: July 21, 2025

One of the greatest strengths of VTS and values of our residential education is formation in community. We help each other over the ups and downs of growing as lay and ordained leaders in the church, through our Rule of Life of class, chapel and lunch.

During my first visit to Alexandria as a prospective student, I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit at work within and through the campus. Since then, that feeling has only grown stronger and I am honored to be able to witness to God’s presence in our community.

This week you will read guest commentaries from various representatives of our student government and student groups who help create the welcoming, supportive, caring, formative environment in which we learn, pray and eat (and often have fun together!).

Those who are contributing commentaries are Jimmy Holcomb, Student Body Vice President, who leads our efforts to support and uplift our community spirit; Josh House, Senior Class President, who is guiding the Class of 2026 through our final year here on the Holy Hill; Beth Clarke, Mission Society President, who is continuing to build on the good work that the Mission Society has done in the world over the past 200 years; and Caroline Mazzocchi, Student Body Chaplain, who supports the spiritual health of our community. Each of them has valuable and insightful information to share that can enrich and bless us individually and in our life together.

Our student body is comprised of believers who deeply care about the future of the church and who are excited about doing the work that God has called us to do so we can help to make the world a better place for all God’s children.

On behalf of SGA and our various societies and student groups, I want to share how grateful we are to the entire VTS community, faculty, staff and alumni, for your support of this institution that enables us to receive a world-class theological education and to grow and be formed into current and future leaders of our church.

Karen Klein (M.Div. ’26)
Student Body President
