The Program for December 17th

Date: December 7, 2023

We are all keeping Presiding Bishop Michael Curry in our prayers. He is such a gift to the Church and such a good friend to the Seminary. We pray for his rapid recovery. One’s health must always be the priority; and we are grateful that he is taking a complete rest from all engagements for the month of December.

As a result, the program for Sunday, December 17 has been adapted. The program now starts at 3pm with the Opening and Dedication of the Welcome Center. Then, at 4.30pm, there will be Lessons and Carols and the Awarding of the Dean’s Cross to Ms. Ellen Hawkins. This event is followed by a dinner, to which everyone is invited, but we do need you to RSVP.

Advent is all about the Incarnation. It is the coming of God as a babe in Bethlehem. The exhibits in the Welcome Center have Incarnation at their heart and the Lessons and Carols service takes us through the entire history of salvation. As we live fully into Advent, we should take this extraordinary opportunity to prepare in the deepest way possible.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary and President of The General Theological Seminary
