The Work of the Communications Coordinator

Date: August 6, 2024

My name is Kimberly Richardson, and I am the Communications Coordinator at Virginia Theological Seminary. You might be wondering, what does a Communications Coordinator do? Let me explain, but first, a bit of background about myself.

I majored in communications and have a passion for social media and all its evolving features. My favorite apps are Instagram and Facebook because they allow me to tell stories to a vast audience using words and pictures. When used effectively, social media is a powerful tool!

As the Communications Coordinator at VTS, I manage our social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and “X” (formerly known as Twitter), under the guidance of Vice President for Communications, Nicky Burridge. I gather content and devise social media strategies to engage our current audience and attract new followers. My goal is to keep our social media channels up to date while maintaining the school’s integrity and standards. I love seeing how different audiences respond on various platforms and the excitement of a post potentially going viral. Since joining in October, I’ve witnessed a few almost-viral moments on Facebook, and the rush of likes and shares feels like pure adrenaline to me!

There are many aspects to my role, but social media is by far my favorite. I hope this excerpt gives you a glimpse into the life of a #VTS Communications Coordinator!
