Thesis or Summative Capstone Project

Date: May 4, 2021

On Wednesday, May 5, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., we look forward with joy to celebrating the work of our masters’ students who have written a thesis or summative capstone project this academic year. After many months of conversation with advisors, readers, writing coaches, and librarians, the students will now have an opportunity to share their work with the VTS Community online. Keep an eye out for an email invitation soon!

Every Thesis and Summative Capstone Project is a process of dedication, resilience, and growth.

From the creation of a proposal sent for approval to the masters’ committee to the meticulous work of research, writing, and revision, these pieces represent a serious undertaking in a normal academic year. To focus, to persevere, and to produce a thesis or summative capstone project amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic is indeed admirable. I am conscious of the determined effort made by our students and by those who have guided them across the finish line.

A range of fascinating and exciting subjects have been chosen this year, including:

  • Addressing Violence Against Women in the Anglican Diocese of Bondo, Kenya
  • The Influence of the American Missionaries on the Culture, Education, and Medicine of Tamil People in Jaffna, Sri Lanka
  • The Kenosis of God Before Christ
  • The Strategies of Faith and Research in Russian Orthodox Biblical Scholarship on the Threshold of the Third Millennium
  • Faith Formation of Children from Baptism to Confirmation in the Episcopal Diocese of Liberia
  • The Post-Colonial Imperative of Interreligious Dialogue: Translating the Missio Dei through the Multireligious Participation of Nicholas Black Elk
  • Listen for the Monastic Imagination
  • The Significance of Inculturation for Evangelism in the Diocese of Masasi, Tanzania

I warmly invite you to join me in recognizing their achievement. Do mark your calendars and join our celebration.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
