The Rev. Dr. Barney Hawkins and I are returning from New York today. We had a donor who expressed a desire to meet with us; we were pleased to do so. Then we had an opportunity to have a conversation with the Dean and President of General Theological Seminary, the Rev. Dr. Michael DeLashmutt.
The easiest way to make the journey is on the train. You can read, discuss, use the wifi, and nap. The journey takes about three hours. As conversations continue with General Theological Seminary, it is helpful to get a sense of some of the practicalities of the relationship.
There are still many steps that need to be taken as we navigate this moment. But the two institutions are doing the hard work of answering the question: “What can we do together for the sake of the Gospel?” And actually, the journey up and back can be both manageable and, indeed, rather pleasant.
The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
