TryTank Experiment Managers

Date: August 25, 2021

This week, we are looking at the new programs TryTank is launching to decentralize our efforts to expand innovation in the Church. Today, let’s explore our new effort utilizing experiment managers.

TryTank is pretty much a staff of one (with some excellent assistance from Br. Luis Hernandez Rivas ’23 as our student worker!). Size will eventually limit our efforts to do more. Our budget does not support additional staff, so we ourselves innovated and created a new role of experiment managers. Experiment managers are folks we engage as consultants for specific experiments. Their responsibility is to run the day-to-day operation of a specific experiment. Generally, these managers have certain expertise which can help an experiment along and, in many cases, also have the advantage of being in a place where the experiment might take place. This is a great way for us to be able to move more experiments forward at any given time.

Right now, I am managing 12 experiments myself (which is a lot!), and we have 10 experiment managers helping us out. Having experiment managers also allows us to welcome varying and diverse voices into this work. I firmly believe that the inclusion of other ways of thinking will supercharge our experiments and make them better.

The Rev. Lorenzo Lebrija
Director, TryTank
