Date: October 20, 2020
October 10, 2010, was the date of the first post for the Building Faith website. Ten years later the site is on its fourth iteration and is home to thousands of articles on Christian formation and discipleship. Have a look at the team’s own reflections on this milestone in this article.
Leadership of Building Faith has changed over the years, with alumna Sarah Bentley Allred ’19 serving as the current editor, with support from Keith Anderson. The most long-standing editor was Charlotte Hand Greeson, who partnered at different times with alumni Matthew Kozlowski and Kyle Oliver in addition to Keith. Of course, the site began with alumna Sharon Ely Pearson while she was working as an editor at Church Publishing, Inc. These capable editors rely heavily on the passion and ideas of many individuals and teams seeking to activate baptism through Christian formation and discipleship (so email them your ideas!).
For the most part, Building Faith no longer does book and curriculum reviews in the traditional sense, apart from Vacation Bible School materials. Instead, the focus is on practical and replicable ideas for Christian formation and discipleship ranging in topic from crafts for children to memory boxes with older adults. The long-standing mission to equip and inspire churches and individuals for the ministry of Christian education and faith formation is integral to the larger department of Lifelong Learning and this work serves as a gift to churches and individuals across a variety of denominations.
Let us join in celebrating this milestone with the Building Faith team, the larger Lifelong Learning team of which they are a part, and all the readers and contributors to Building Faith throughout the years. Thank you and congratulations! The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D. Dean and President
