Date: September 1, 2020

A massive thank you to all those who wrote the Commentary over the summer. For those of you who followed the journey, you learned a great deal about this Seminary. From TryTank to Vice President Ballou’s love of The Blessing, we discovered the depth of talent in this place. Thank you to all those contributed. And please let me add my welcome to the new class of Juniors. By simply arriving in the middle of a pandemic, you have written yourselves into the annals of history. But more, those in the MDiv program are the class of 2023. You are our Bicentennial Class. We have been doing this work for 200 years and you join the ranks of those who have gone before, offering your lives to God in this place. We welcome you; may God be in every moment. There is so much going on here at VTS. From the practical (today is a COVID testing day) to the extraordinary (we now have discovered some of the names of the persons who were enslaved on this campus), we are heading into Fall Term aware of the significance of history. May God be with us all as we navigate this extraordinary season. The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.  Dean and President
