Date: September 22, 2020

Today is Quiet Day. It might seem strange to have a quiet day in the middle of a semester where much more quiet than normal has been imposed on us all. But this space is quite different from the COVID-imposed quiet. This is a space where we invite God to work on our lives in a deep, intentional way. The conventions remain the same. From the end of Morning Prayer until the end of the afternoon Office, seminarians are required to observe silence (naturally some exceptions will be needed for persons running the School House). Ideally we do not get reading done for this or that course or make progress on an assignment. Instead, we might walk; we might read a devotional text; we might sit and just pray to God. Formation is our work in this place. We need to give God some space to transform our lives. May God bless you all during this Quiet Day with a difference. The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D. Dean and President
