Date: September 8, 2020

Today, weather permitting, we gather outside for the start of the semester service. Please bring your masks and please ensure you are at least six feet away from the other worshippers. We are going to worship together; and we are going to do this safely. I want us today to commit to working hard to get to know each other. It is difficult. All the spontaneous gatherings in Cafe 1823 or the Flamingo are harder. Even though we can eat together in the Refectory, it is difficult with the safety gaps. So let us think about how we can meet and get to know each other safely.  I will be talking to my executive assistant about how I can connect with students; I am hoping to invite groups of students to the Interim Deanery for a physically-distanced welcome.  I invite us all to do this work. Relationships are a key part of being at Seminary. So taking the time to listen to each other and learn from each other is really important.  The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D. Dean and President
