Visiting with Bishop Ann Ritonia

Date: November 29, 2023

Yesterday I had a delightful meeting with the new bishop suffragan for armed forces and federal ministries. Her journey has involved both the military (she served for 17 years in the Marine Corps) and in music (she was educated at the New England Conservatory of Music); and now she is a bishop in a vitally important area.

We have a significant number of seminarians who are anticipating chaplaincy as their calling. Sector Ministries is a growing area of service. The witness of the Episcopal Church in the world of chaplaincy is important. We are the tradition ready and willing to meet people where they are; we also willing to be a pastor to a person from a different religious or secular tradition. This willingness makes us especially effective in a chaplaincy setting.

It was a delight to meet with her. I am hopeful that our work in chaplaincy will continue to grow and flourish. It is important work.
