It is a pleasure to have worked at the Seminary as the Technology Coordinator for nearly 5 years. I am always eager to learn from my supervisors, colleagues, students and faculty that I support. My experience in this role has been continuously fruitful and engaging. The best part of this role is meeting new students, collaborating with various vendors and running AV for events.
Meeting new students each year always excites me. While I create their student IDs and help set up their computers, printers, logins, and other IT/AV related equipment, I get to engage them in conversation about their calling to faith. Many of these conversations happen in the computer lab that I manage.
The other aspect of my role at the Seminary that I enjoy is the privilege to collaborate with outside partners: those that help keep the Seminary running smoothly. One of our primary partners is Focus Data Solutions—a brilliant IT service provider locally sourced in Alexandria, Virginia. FDS is well aligned to meet the Seminary’s business goals and delivers expertise with easy solutions that support the campus. Another partner I enjoy working with is Duane J. Lomis. He is an independent AV contractor who supports many of our events from our annual commencement, webinars, recording professor lectures, and etc. Duane’s skills and knowledge are helping to grow my capabilities in this area.
Another highlight resulting from my role managing AV for events at the Seminary took place Tuesday, June 6. This is a day that I will never forget. Joseph R. Biden, the 46th president of the United States, visited the campus to support the COVID vaccination initiative of the Neighborhood Health Clinic housed temporarily in Immanuel Chapel. Since our office was required for this event, I was tasked with making sure that all technology related requirements were met for the President of the United States.
The Technology Office is unique. It consists of a diverse group of teams that work well together to support the Seminary’s mission and I am grateful to be a part of this work.
