Please join me in celebrating the Service of Light with awarding of the Dean’s Cross and honorary degrees this Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.
The Dean’s Cross is the highest award that the Seminary can confer. Past recipients of this award include Barbara Bush, Madeline Albright, and Wendell Berry. This year the Dean’s Cross for Servant Leadership will be presented to the Virginia Theological Seminary Class of 2020. This is the class that experienced the campus as a COVID-19 hotspot; this was the class that supported those in quarantine; this was the class that put together beautiful music videos recorded from their separate rooms; this was the class that wept as they separated and were unable to celebrate their years on the campus together in an in-person graduation ceremony. For all this and more, this year’s Dean’s Cross will be conferred on the Class of 2020. In addition, the Doctoral Thesis Award will be presented, along with the conferral of Doctor of Ministry, Doctor of Divinity, and Doctor of Humane Letters degrees. This years’ service will be held entirely online and can be viewed by visiting the VTS website.
