As the adage goes, once a part of VTS, always a part of VTS. The Rev. William (Bill) Roberts recently let me know about a little book from 1999 about a Primitive Baptist hymnal, The Primitive Hymns, compiled in 1841 in Alabama by Benjamin Lloyd. The folklorist who meticulously traced its editions (it is still in print!) examined an 1882 printing at VTS. Unfortunately, he identified the institution as “Virginia Technological Seminary.” It is hard to be meticulous in all things.

The interweaving of the history of VTS and today’s technological advances makes discoveries like these a simple joy. As we continue to look to the future, please consider making a contribution on Giving Day – October 15, 2020 – the anniversary of our founding in 1823. This 24-hour event will support renovations to the Bishop Payne Library.

Thanks to the generosity of The Cabell Foundation and The Mary Morton Parsons Foundation, we have the opportunity to unlock additional funds by raising money in support of the Library’s renovations.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D. Dean and President
