In the traditional model for Board meetings, all of the committees meet the day prior the full Board meeting. Typically this means six Board committees on a Tuesday, followed by the full business meeting on a Wednesday. Given that the Board decided in June that these meetings should be on Zoom, we needed a new system. Our Board committees have been meeting over the last few weeks. Many of these meetings have taken place in the late afternoon, and I am grateful to those who have extended their day to be present. Thus far, the Investment Committee, the Community Life Committee, and the Finance Committee have met. In all cases there is a deep interest in how the Seminary is coping with the pandemic. Our Board members care about this place; they want it to be a good experience for the community. I find answering the question difficult to answer. In truth, we are all tired; we all want it over; we are all frustrated; and for some, this is really scary. Yet this describes the whole world. So simultaneously, I sense that there is gratitude, hope, and appreciation for how fortunate we are. We are all in a “both and” state. Living in this “both and” state is our obligation and learning in the moment. Sometimes this is how life just is. The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D. Dean and President
