Another fiscal year has begun: Welcome FY2022! Today the campus is quiet, as many of our employees are taking advantage of a long holiday weekend or planned vacation time away. I do hope that everyone will take some time this summer to rest and rejuvenate. It is important that we make room in our lives for play and activities outside of work. If the pandemic has taught me anything, it is the preciousness of life and the lives of those we love. I plan to spend my time this summer laughing a lot, reading some, writing daily, working a bit, and being prayerful for the opportunity to do these things. Life is precious and I have learned not to take it for granted.
So, as we journey together, let us all remember what is important to us and spend our time doing more of those things. Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to meet with each staff member for a one-on-one conversation. These conversations were the highlight of my year. It was so wonderful to connect and re-connect with staff that I had not seen face to face in over a year. I became keenly aware of how important casual conversations in the workplace are to me, and the benefits that are unique to office-based environments. I really missed those impromptu conversations with what has become my VTS family. Each conversation was life-giving to me in its own special way. So, thank you to everyone who took the time to meet with me and share a part of your life’s journey in those few precious moments together.
I give God thanks and I am grateful for my place here at Virginia Theological Seminary. To God be the glory!
