Welcome Presiding Bishop Sean W. Rowe

Date: April 7, 2025

I speak for the entire staff and faculty when I say that it’s always a delight to see former students return to Virginia Theological Seminary. Some return to us as lay leaders in the church, others as priests and pastors, and some even as bishops. This week we are thrilled to welcome the Most Rev. Sean W. Rowe, ’00, (H) ’09, who returns to us for the first time since being installed as the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in November last year.

Bishop Rowe will offer the Albert T. Mollegen Forum address on Wednesday, April 9 at 6:15pm following Evening Prayer in Immanuel Chapel. The subject for his address, “Institutional Resistance: Theological Perspectives on Public Witness,” could not be timelier. Do register for the Mollegen Forum here. Then on the following day, Thursday April 10, Bishop Rowe will preach at Choral Evensong in Immanuel Chapel.

We look forward to hearing Bishop Rowe’s words for us in this moment where our civic life calls for a bold witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary and President of The General Theological Seminary
