Welcome to the Alumni Association

Date: October 12, 2022

Convocation is the opportunity for alums to return to the campus. Last night, we had a wonderful service where we conferred an honorary doctorate on Rev. Dr. Malcolm Guite and recognized the achievement of the Rev. Dr. Kate Sonderegger in receiving the Karl Barth Prize. Today, the Alumni Association Executive Committee will be meeting. They have important business to consider as they think through the rich contribution that Alumni can make to the Seminary.

Alums returning to the campus is a real opportunity for our existing students. It is in the natural pattern of things that all students (God willing) become alums. Our alums provide a deep and rich network of thoughtful connections for our existing students. I do invite all the students to create opportunities to sit with a graduate and ask about their ministry – whether lay or ordained. For those on the MDiv track, it is especially interesting learning from recent alums as they transition from Seminary to the parish.

I am grateful to the hard work of Ms. Shelagh Casey Brown; she oversees the complex operation. I am sure she would be the first to admit that plenty of other people help her. But for now, I wish to simply say thank you to our director. It is a stressful time; and it is lovely to see everything unfold so well.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
