The Department of Lifelong Learning at VTS was established in 2017 to integrate the work of several existing programs and Centers for greater impact. In particular, the Center for the Ministry of Teaching and Lifetime Theological Education came together to serve the formation and leadership needs of congregations and individuals. Since then, our programming and resource development has grown and diversified as Lifelong Learning has become a hub for grant-based research, innovation, and churchwide collaboration.
I am thrilled that Mr. Wallace Benton, M.Ed., will join our team on August 28th as the first Associate Director of Lifelong Learning. In this new role, he will assume responsibility for our year-round programming and become a public voice for lifelong learning. With his recent experience as Lay Chaplain at University of the South in Sewanee, TN, extensive work in youth ministry, service as Chair of the Forma Advisory Committee, and a Masters degree in higher education leadership, Wallace is well positioned to help lead us in new, faithful, and responsive directions.
The appointment of an Associate Director will allow me to focus more fully on our research (grants), resource development, partnerships, and my own faculty responsibilities of teaching, advising, and service to the Seminary. As we prepare for a new academic and program year, the Department of Lifelong Learning is ready! We look forward to connecting with you soon.
