Why Telling Our Story Matters

Date: July 13, 2026

Every interaction someone has with Virginia Theological Seminary shapes their perception of who we are. Whether it is a prospective student, an alum, a donor, or someone encountering VTS for the first time through the media or social media, each of these moments contributes to how people understand the Seminary and helps to build relationships.

These interactions are the reason Communications and Institutional Advancement work so closely together. Telling the VTS story clearly and consistently is essential not only to recruiting, but also to strengthening relationships with alumni, donors, churches, and friends of the Seminary. When people understand who we are and see the difference VTS is making, they are more likely to engage with us, support us, and become advocates for the Seminary.

Good communication practices are not limited to the work of Communications and Institutional Advancement. Every member of the Seminary community has a role to play in ensuring that those who engage with VTS have a positive, consistent, and welcoming experience. Thank you to everyone across the Seminary who helps tell the VTS story so well. From personal conversations to social media posts, to service in the Church or academy, together, we are building relationships that strengthen the Seminary today and help ensure it can continue forming leaders for The Episcopal Church for generations to come.
