Wispr Flow and Joanna Stern

Date: August 21, 2026

We are living at an extraordinary time in terms of technological options. As I age I am deeply aware of how easy it is to get left behind by technology. We all know people who cannot find Netflix on their smart TV. So I am constantly experimenting with new possibilities. One that I am finding amazing is Wispr Flow. I have tried dictation inside Apple (sometimes for texts or short emails) and it is not good. But Wispr Flow is outstanding. It does not need instructions on punctuation – it does it all for you. You pick a style (mine is formal) and polished text emerges with virtually no need to correct. It integrates with every app on every device. So you can now dictate your essays into a Word Doc on your Apple Mac.

Everyone, in my humble opinion, needs to subscribe to a technology update specialist platform. I listen and read several. My favorite podcast is Hard Fork from the New York Times. And my favorite writer is Joanna Stern who writes for “New Things”. Joanna is excellent. I learned about Wispr Flow from her weekly newsletter; and every issue as it lands in my in box is always full of information that is not too technical, yet deeply informative. She really does write about technologies that regular people are likely to find interesting. And her judgment about all these technologies has been spot on. She really is impressive.

I don’t normally use the commentary to plug two products. You will be pleased to hear that this will not be habit. But I have found both so helpful that I could not help but share.
