The Rev. Dr. Russell J. Levenson, Jr. new book (which you can pre-order here), Witness to Belief: Conversations on Faith and Meaning, reveals what many prominent actors, artists, and public figures rarely discuss publicly: their Christian faith and the central role it plays in their lives. Witness to Belief invites readers to learn about twelve high-profile individuals (including Denzel Washington, Condoleezza Rice, Sam Waterson, and Jane Goodall to name a few) who candidly share how their faith informs their values, fuels their creativity, and anchors them amid the pressures and challenges of their lives. The results is a rare, unfiltered look into how a diverse group of people came to their Christian Faith – and how they have sustained it over time.
Dr. Levenson, Jr. has been an ordained Episcopal priest for over thirty years and served as the rector of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, the largest Episcopal Church in North America, for seventeen years until his retirement. He co-officiated and offered a homily at the state funeral for President George H.W. Bush. He also officiated and preached at the funeral for first lady Barbara Bush. He is the author of many books including Witness to Dignity and In God’s Grip.Â
The VTS community will have the privilege of hearing directly from Dr. Levenson, Jr. during his October 15, 2025 Deanery Evening. Those who come will get a free copy of the book. Click here to register for the event.
