- Consists of a “Scrap Book Belonging to Robt Hollins Hardin, Chicago, Ills., Commenseing [sic] Oct. 25th, 1898.” It was given to Father Hayden by Mr. Hardin circa 1974. Measuring approximately 17.5” x 11” x 1.5”, the book contains numerous newspaper clippings and other memorabilia ranging from the late 19th to the early 20th centuries. One of the earliest pages in the book bears the following inscription: “Robert Hollins Hardin. Age 28. Borned [sic] @ Louisville Ky Walnut St. Bet 9th and 10th Sts. July 14th 1871. Came to Chicago Ills. Dec. 1882. Confirmed into the Episcopal Church by Bishop Ferguson of Liberia Africa 1893.” The book itself and the numerous newspaper clippings it contains are in very poor condition and may be handled only with the permission, and in the presence, of an archivist.
